The Colors

Christopher Boone is a 15 year old kid with autism, he is the main character of the book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime”. He really likes Sherlock Holmes book and when his neighbor’s dog is killed with a pitchfork he is compelled to write this book. One of his quarks is he has associated different colors with different meanings, for instance he likes a color red and it means he will have a good day as he states in the book, “In the bus on the way to school next morning we passed 4 red cars in a row, which meant that it was a Good Day.” (Haddon 24).

There are also other combinations like 5 red cars in a row means a super good day. Christopher however does not like yellow he will not eat anything yellow and if he sees 4 yellow cars in a row it means he will have a black day, “4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day” (Haddon 24), this in which he will not talk to anyone at school and he doesn’t eat lunch. It is pretty obvious that he also dislike likes black as it refers to him having a bad day. The last color he talks about during the book is brown which he also dislikes because when he is having breakfast he talks about how if he ate shreddies and drank tea he would be shaky and thing about lemonade and coco pops which are colors he dislikes. “I start thinking about Coco Pops and lemonade and Dr.Pepper…. And even writing this makes me feel shaky and scared” (Haddon 19).

The Contact

Christopher Boone is a 15 year old kid with autism, he is the main character of the book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime”. He really likes Sherlock Holmes book and when his neighbor’s dog is killed with a pitchfork he is compelled to write this book. One of the things he hates is being touched. I mean, a lot of people don’t like to be touched either, but he doesn’t like to be touched at all by anyone, with a few exceptions. One of the very few things he will except if when he and one of his parents will fan out their and and interlock their fingers kind of saying I love you or a way of calming him down. Most of the time his reaction is to hit the person touching him, this gets him into trouble a few times, and he also carries around a swiss army knife incase a stranger tries to touch him. Since he reacts so severely to this he does get in trouble once or twice. In the beginning when he first finds out about Wellington Mrs.Shears comes out to find him holding Wellington and calls the police. When they arrive a police officer pulls him away from the dog to talk to him and Christoper punches him, he is then arrested then taken down to the police station.” The police man took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn’t like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him” (Haddon 8).
